A Traditional Tool for Cleansing, Protection & Spellwork

The besom has long held its place within witchcraft as both a practical object and a magickal tool.

Used to clear ritual space, guard the threshold & prepare a place for working, the witch’s broom carries an unmistakable symbolism: what does not belong here is swept away. What the witch chooses to welcome may then enter.

This handcrafted 36" raw straw besom is created for use within the witch’s home & practice. Each is dressed with traditional botanicals chosen for their magickal properties, anointed with my handcrafted Prosperity & Protection Oil & finished with your choice of removable black or purple ribbon.

No two besoms are exactly alike. Each is made by hand, allowing the natural straw, herbs & binding to retain the character of the materials themselves.

THE BOTANICALS

Rosemary • Cleansing | Protection | Purification

Rosemary has a long history within folk practice as a protective & cleansing herb. Worked into the besom, it strengthens its traditional purpose of clearing unwanted influence & preparing space for magickal work.

Lavender • Peace | Protection | Harmony

Lavender brings a gentler protection to the working, traditionally associated with peace, purification & the settling of discord within the home.

Cinnamon • Prosperity | Protection | Success

Warm, fiery cinnamon carries properties of prosperity, success & protection. Its nature lends movement to workings intended to draw opportunity, abundance & favorable conditions.

PROSPERITY & PROTECTION OIL

The finished besom is anointed with my handcrafted Prosperity & Protection Oil, bringing another layer of correspondence to the botanicals already bound within it.

The materials carry their properties.

The witch determines the work.

WORKING WITH YOUR BESOM

A besom used magickally does not need to touch the floor. Instead, sweep just above its surface, allowing the physical action of sweeping to become part of the working itself.

Before ritual or spellwork, sweep the area to clear what has accumulated there & prepare the space for what comes next.

At the threshold, hang or place the besom near an entrance as a traditional protective boundary for the home.

Within prosperity work, the direction of the sweep may change with the intent. Sweep outward when clearing or banishing. Work deosil when drawing prosperity, opportunity or desired influence into the space.

The besom may also be incorporated into circle preparation, purification workings, seasonal practice & handfasting traditions, including the familiar custom of “jumping the broom.”

CHOOSE YOUR RIBBON

Your besom may be finished with either a Black or Purple removable ribbon. Please leave your choice in the personalization box or order note.

Black • Protection | Banishment | Grounding
Choose black when the besom will primarily be worked for clearing, boundary setting & protection.

Purple • Intuition | Witchcraft | Magickal Wisdom
Choose purple when the besom will hold a more distinctly magickal place within your altar, ritual space or personal practice.

AT THE THRESHOLD

There is something wonderfully old in the simple act of sweeping.

The besom does not decide what should remain or what should be removed. It gives the witch a physical means of marking that choice.
