Twelve Nights to Yule
A Witch’s Guide to the Winter Solstice
The Winter Solstice is near. Twelve nights until the longest dark folds into the quiet promise of returning light. Across frost touched branches and snow soft earth, the old magick stirs, waiting for your hands, your breath, your craft.
Below is a countdown woven in witch’s lore, hearth warm prose & small enchantments to ready your spirit for Yule.
Night 12-The Breath of the Dark
In stillness deep, where shadows keep,
The witch begins her vigil.
Tonight, breathe with the season. Let quiet settle around you like a cloak. This is the time when the Earth draws inward. Follow her lead.
Night 11-Evergreen Wards
Pine for endurance. Cedar for cleansing. Juniper for protection.
Bring a sprig of evergreen into your home. Let it be your first Yule charm.
Night 10-Tend the Hearth Spirit
Light a candle and whisper:
Flame of winter, spirit bright,
Guard my threshold through the night.
Even without a hearth, the flame answers intention.
Night 9-Honor the Longest Night
Darkness deepens, kind and wise,
The cradle where the newborn Sun lies.
Sit in shadow for a moment. Let the dark be sacred.
Night 8-Sweep the Way Clear
Sweep your doorstep or floor with intention, recite:
By brush or breath, I clear the way,
For Yule’s bright fire to come and stay.
We clear before we call.
Night 7-Whisper to the Ancestors
Through frost and veil, through silent air,
Ancient ones, I know you’re there.
Offer honey, bread or a quiet thought. Invite ancestral guidance.
Night 6-Solstice Scenting
Simmer winter botanicals pine, clove, orange peel, rosemary or diffuse them in your space.
Whisper:
Warm the winter, stir the light,
Carry peace through Solstice night.
Night 5-Craft a Protection Charm
Choose pinecone, ribbon, stone or string.
Hold it in your hands & recite;
By ancient craft and winter’s might,
I bind my home in shielded light.
Hang it near your threshold.
Night 4-Prepare the Heart
Journal, meditate, or scry by candlelight.
Ask:
What part of me is ready to rise with the newborn Sun?
Let the answer come softly.
Night 3- Craft the Yule Flame
Anoint or carve a candle for Solstice dawn.
Recite
From longest night, my hope takes wing,
And with this spark, new blessings sing.
This is your Solstice fire.
Night 2-Feed the Quiet Dark
Speak a wish, a truth, or a spell into the night.
Night so deep, your wisdom keep,
But let my blessings rise from sleep.
The dark is listening.
Night 1-Yule Eve / Vigil of the Witch
Light a single flame.
Sit with the dark.
Sit with your ancestors.
Sit with yourself.
On Solstice night, the Wheel turns slow,
Through frost and star and ember’s glow.
I hold the dark. I greet the light.
A witch reborn by Yule’s great night.
Let this vigil be yours.
A Final Blessing for Yule
From winter’s hush my spirit wakes,
Through ancient paths the fire takes.
May peace be near, may magick stay,
And may Yule bless your witch’s way.
