Working with Barbault's Basket Through the Eyes of the Witch
July 21, 2026
There are moments when the sky seems to rearrange itself in a way that catches the attention of astrologers around the world. Charts are cast. Predictions are made. Timelines are drawn. We search for the event that will justify the excitement.
Yet the witch has always watched the heavens differently.
We have never looked to the stars simply to discover what will happen next. We look because the heavens reveal the quality of the current moving through the world. They tell us less about events than they do about conditions. Like a river after spring runoff or the first shift in autumn light, something subtle changes long before the landscape fully reveals what it is becoming.
The planetary arrangement that astrologer André Barbault described as the Basket is one of those moments.
Many have called it rare. Some have called it once in a lifetime.
Neither description is what interests me.
What interests me is the invitation.
The Sky Is Not Giving You Power
One of the easiest misconceptions surrounding planetary alignments is the idea that they somehow grant us power we did not possess before.
The heavens do not hand magick to the practitioner.
They change the way magick moves.
Think of an old woodland path after years of fallen branches. The destination has never changed, but reaching it requires patience, detours, and persistence. Then comes the first morning after a careful clearing. The path itself is no more magical than it was before, yet suddenly the journey asks less of your attention. Your energy is free to travel farther.
That is how I experience this configuration.
Not as an increase of power. As a reduction of resistance.
For many witches, the years behind us have been defined by restoration.
Protective workings. Boundary work. Ancestral healing. Rebuilding foundations.
Learning where our energy ended & another's began.
Necessary work. Deep work.
But eventually every season of repair reaches its natural conclusion.
The vessel has been mended. Now it longs to be used.
A Different Elemental Conversation
One of the more fascinating aspects of this alignment has little to do with aspects themselves.
Instead, it lies in the quality of the signs occupied by the outer planets.
Fire.
Air.
Movement.
Vision.
Ideas.
Expression.
These are not the slow, heavy currents of survival that defined so much of the past several years. They are currents that ask entirely different questions.
Instead of,
How do I protect what I have?
The heavens seem to whisper,
What have you become capable of creating?
That distinction changes everything.
Fire imagines possibility. Air gives that possibility language.
Together they carry ideas farther than either could alone.
For witches, this feels remarkably familiar. Every spell begins this way.
Long before herbs are gathered or candles are lit, there is first a subtle rearrangement within perception itself. We notice something differently. We recognize a correspondence we had overlooked. Two symbols suddenly belong together.
The spell begins there. Not at the altar.
Within awareness.
Four Currents Moving Together
When I study this configuration, I do not see four planets.
I see four movements within the Craft.
Neptune in Aries is the first ember.
The moment inspiration crosses the threshold between imagination and intention.
Not a dream.
A calling.
Uranus in Gemini changes the pattern.
Every experienced practitioner eventually learns that reality often changes after language changes. The names we give things matter. Symbols matter. Correspondences matter. Rearranging thought is often the first act of rearranging the world.
Jupiter in Leo breathes life into what has been conceived.
There comes a point in every working where contemplation gives way to declaration. The witch no longer wonders if the spell is ready.
She speaks.
Pluto in Aquarius carries the work beyond the individual.
Every meaningful magical tradition began as someone's personal discovery before becoming part of a living current carried by others. What changes within one practitioner eventually ripples outward into family, community & culture.
Vision. Pattern. Will. Transmission.
Seen through the eyes of the witch, these are not separate planetary forces.
They are the anatomy of manifestation itself.
The Threshold We Rarely Notice
Thresholds are curious things.
Most people expect them to announce themselves.
They seldom do.
The first harvest begins while fields are still green.
The first hint of autumn arrives while summer remains warm.
A witch who returns to the same woodland year after year begins noticing these quiet transitions before they become obvious.
The sky works much the same way.
This alignment does not ask us to chase extraordinary experiences.
It asks us to recognize that the atmosphere supporting our work has quietly changed.
There is less friction.
Ideas travel farther.
Intuition arrives with greater clarity.
Connections reveal themselves more readily.
The work itself has not changed.
The medium through which the work moves has.
That is a subtle distinction.
It is also an important one.
Spellcraft for the Threshold

Many practitioners will be tempted to use this  moment for prosperity, love, abundance, or  manifestation.
There is nothing inherently wrong with those  intentions.
Yet they may miss a deeper opportunity.
This configuration does not feel like an invitation to ask for more.
It feels like an invitation to become more available.
Not to gather power.
To gather readiness.
If I were standing before my altar beneath this sky, I would save my boldest working for this night.
Not because the heavens grant power we do not already possess, but because certain celestial patterns seem to carry intention with remarkable clarity.
Whether your declaration is prosperity, healing, purpose, creative work, or a calling that has quietly waited for the right season to emerge, let it be worthy of this moment.
For me, that declaration would be the continued unfolding of my Craft, not simply for this season, but for the years still waiting to be woven.
Legacy Spellcraft
The Basket of Intention
A Working for Barbault's Basket
There are rare moments when the heavens gather themselves into an uncommon pattern. Not to alter the witch, but to alter the pathways through which intention travels.
This is one of those moments.
Legacy Spellcraft is not worked to satisfy a passing desire or answer a temporary need. It is cast for the work that will outlive the season, the year & perhaps even the witch who first spoke it into motion.
This working asks a single question,
What am I prepared to weave into the world that deserves to endure?
Gather
-
Four lengths of natural cord, each approximately 18 inches long
-
One sheet of natural parchment or handmade paper
-
One beeswax candle
-
A small bowl of spring water
-
A pinch of earth gathered from a place meaningful to your practice
-
A small feather
-
A sprig of rosemary or mugwort
-
A small keepsake box, wooden vessel, or woven basket to hold your completed working
Preparing the Circle
Cast your circle in your customary way. Arrange the bowl of water to the West.
Place the feather to the East. Lay the rosemary beside the candle in the South.
Place the earth to the North. Allow the center of your altar to remain open.
Light the candle and spend several moments allowing your awareness to settle.
This is not a night for many intentions.
It is a night for one.
The Declaration
Take the parchment.
Do not begin writing immediately.
Instead, ask yourself:
If my Craft could leave one enduring thread in this world, what would I choose to weave?
Allow the answer to arise naturally.
When it comes, write a single declaration.
Write it as though the first thread has already been placed upon the loom.
Examples-
I now weave courage into every life my Craft touches.
I now bring wisdom where fear once stood.
I now tend the remembrance of the Old Ways with steady hands.
Or allow your own words to emerge.
Write only one.
Fold the parchment toward yourself four times.
With each fold, quietly speak:
Vision. Pattern. Will. Endurance.
Weaving the Basket
Gather the four cords.
Assign no color or correspondence unless one naturally calls to you.
Simply recognize that each strand represents one current joining the whole.
Begin braiding.
As your hands move, recite,
Four become one.
One becomes the work.
The work becomes the thread.
The thread becomes the weaving.
What is woven with clear intention
shall find its rightful place.
When the braid is complete, wrap it gently around the folded parchment.
Tie it securely with three simple knots.
With each knot, recite,
I begin.
I continue.
I endure.
You have now created your Basket of Intention.
The Invocation
Hold the bound parchment between your hands.
Raise it slightly toward the heavens & recite,
Above me, the heavens gather and rise.
The ancient pattern awakens once more.
I stand where intention and destiny meet.
I answer the weaving beneath open skies.
Beneath me, the earth remembers each seed.
The stones hold the stories of those who came before.
My hands know the work they were fashioned to do.
I follow the thread that is mine now to lead.
Each word leaves my lips without purpose and flame.
No word shall be spoken unless it is true.
The current is waiting to carry my work.
I cast it with will and I speak it by name.
May this which I weave find its rightful way.
Beyond what I see, beyond what I can know.
May each unseen turning strengthen the whole.
Its thread shall endure when I've finished this day.
The heavens have shifted. The moment is here.
The pattern now opens; the pathway is free.
With clear heart and steady hand, I begin.
As I will, so shall it be.
Â
Remain in silence. Listen. Not for answers. For resonance.
Sealing the Working
Touch the bound parchment lightly to the feather.
Touch it to the rosemary. Touch it to the bowl of water. Touch it finally to the earth.
Each element now recognizes the work. Place the Basket of Intention inside its vessel.
Do not reopen it. Allow it to rest for one complete year.
When Barbault's Basket has become memory & the heavens have long since shifted into their next conversation, return to this working.
Read your declaration. Notice what has changed. Notice what has remained.
Notice what has begun weaving itself into your life while you were busy practicing your Craft.
Some spells reveal themselves in days. Others reveal themselves only after enough seasons have passed for the harvest to be gathered.
Legacy Spellcraft belongs to the latter.
Leave the weaving to its own unfolding.
The strongest threads are seldom the ones woven in haste.
